Maldives Pres assures nearly 20 resort developments in 2024 aimed at boosting tourism

The Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the development of at least 20 resorts across the country will be initiated within the year.

President Dr. Muizzu made these remarks while speaking with Madifushi Island residents while visiting the island on his tour of the Kolhumadulu atoll islands.

In his speech, President reiterated the current administration’s commitment to assist the people of Madifushi in achieving their envisioned development. He then relayed the administration’s focus on developing the tourism industry.

President Dr. Muizzu further revealed his vision to make the country appealing as a tourism product, and cement its self-sustainability to garner trust and respect among investors.

The Maldives head of state urged the island’s council to prioritize the development projects initiated on Madifushi in order of significance. He assured the government would prioritize preferences conveyed by the councils of local islands in running development projects.

Furthermore, President Dr. Muizzu assured of empowering councils and fostering economic progress, detailing his administration’s stance on decentralized governance.

He assured the administration would seek to financially empower island councils by allowing to generate revenue from the islands within the councils’ jurisdiction.
