The executives of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) met with Addu International Airport Private Limited (AIA) today to discuss potential areas of collaboration.
MACL operates the Maldives’ largest and main airport, Velana International Airport, while AIA manages Gan International Airport located in southern Addu City.
During a visit to the South, the Managing Director & CEO of MACL, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, met with the Managing Director of AIA to discuss matters of mutual interest and potential areas of collaboration.
Accompanying Shareef were his two deputies, Mohamed Lamaan and Mujuthaba Latheef, who also met with the heads of Gan Airport.
Gan is considered a potential hub for the Maldives. Apart from Malé, it has the highest population, making international connectivity necessary. Gan Airport is crucial for developing tourism in the South.
Gan Airport was originally built by the British in the 1940s as the first airport in the Maldives and was later handed over to the Maldivian Government in 1976.
