Ministry of Islamic Affairs has begun accepting Fitr Zakat in food staples as of Sunday.
The ministry said Zakat will be accepted in staples at Ameeniyya School hall. Zakat will be accepted everyday, except on Fridays and Saturdays, from 13:00hrs until 16:00hrs, from March 21 until April 08, 2024.
Zakat will be accepted from 13:00hrs until 18:00hrs on the following Tuesday, April 09, which also coincides with the last day of Ramadan.
Staples accepted as Zakat generally include regular rice, Thailand white rice, basmati rice, red rice, regular flour, and Atta flour.
The ministry reports collecting MVR 1.5 million in Zakat within the first 10 days of Ramadan this year.
