Muni Foundation, Fushifaru Maldives to launch ‘Plastic Aa Nulaa’ at Hulhumale’

Muni Foundation and Fushifaru Maldives have announced the “Plastic Aa Nulaa” event, is scheduled to take place on April 29, 2024 at Hulhumale’ Central Park.

The event aims to bring together individuals, communities, and local NGOs and organizations “towards the cause of eliminating single-use plastic, protecting our marine life and fostering a more sustainable way of living”.

“Plastic Aa Nulaa”, which translates to ‘Without Plastic’ or ‘No to Plastic’ in Dhivehi is a movement towards a cleaner, greener future.

The event is organized in support of governmental bodies and corporate sponsors, organizers said.

Fushifaru Maldives, one of the organizers of the event, is a prominent advocate of environmental preservation and has implemented a range of green initiatives including a coral propagation project, elimination of single-use plastic bags on the property, planting trees and promoting sustainable cooking practices with a chef’s garden.

The resort has also been commended for its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.

Muni Foundation, a prominent non-profit organization dedicated to environmental conservation, together with Fushifaru Maldives initiated the project with the mission to create a more sustainable future.

Besides the organizers, Ooredoo Maldives has partnered in the effort as the Gold Sponsor, highlighting its corporate social responsibility (CSR) commitments, and consistency in being a key play on promoting environmental sustainability.

Additionally, La Linker and Trans Maldivian Airways (TMA) have joined the efforts as Bronze Sponsors, demonstrating their commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement as well.

The event will also feature a distinguished panel speakers that include Ahmed Siaar, the General Manager of Fushifaru Maldives; Khalid Al-Hamadi, the CEO of Ooredoo; and Lorraine Aldridge, the Marine Biologist at Atoll Marine Conservation Center.

Besides this, the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam is expected to grace the event as one of its VIP guests.

“We are thrilled to host Plastic Aa Nulaa, a significantly important event of the year to support efforts to tackle plastic pollution in our city,” said Ahmed Siaar.

“It’s inspiring to see so many individuals and organizations come together with a shared commitment to protecting our planet.”

In addition to raising awareness and promoting sustainable alternatives, the event will also facilitate community action through a beach cleanup during the event date’s morning.

The main event is scheduled to commence at 16:30hrs on the event date.
