STELCO announces Ramadan electricity bill discount

State Electric Company (STELCO) announced on Thursday, May 02, 2024, the decision to extend discount on domestic electricity consumption in last Ramadan.

The company’s Managing Director Hussain Fahmy confirmed this on X (formerly Twitter), stating the decision aligns with Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge to offer discount on utility bills for Ramadan.

Last week of Ramadan coincided with early April, due to which the discount would extend to April’s bill.

Fahmy said the recently issued utility bills will be resent with adjustments to customers soon. The new bill will reflect the numbers along with the discounted amount, STELCO added.

“I provide assurance that we remain committed to doing everything we can for the benefit of the Maldivian people, in line with the government’s efficient compassionate policies,” Fahmy said via X.

Ahead of Ramadan, President Dr. Muizzu announced the decision to offer discount on domestic utility bills, aimed at provide respite to the households.

As such, both water and electricity bills were based on average consumption during regular months.
