Maldives request loan rollover from India

The Maldives government has once again made the request for a rollover on the USD 150 million provided by the Indian government.

This amount is the remainder of the USD 200 million extended by the Indian government to Maldives for its budget support. The Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer confirmed the island nation has already paid USD 50 million from the total.

Zameer made the formal request from the Indian government during his recent official visit to the South Asian ally, where he had met with the External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar.

According to statistics shared by the ministry, Maldives government owed USD 406 million in outstanding loans to the Indian government as of 2023 final quarter.
