Island Aviation Services (IAS) Limited, parent company of the country’s national carrier, Maldivian, has issued call for proposals seeking to lease an additional Airbus aircraft.

In its announcement, IAS called for proposals from eligible parties to add a narrow-body aircraft to expand Maldivian’s direct international flights.

As such, IAS is seeking to lease one Airbus A319ceo or A320ceo aircraft on an operating lease basis for a period of 3 years. The selected aircraft is to be delivered promptly to IAS to ensure readiness for commercial operations expected by September 2024.

Maldivian is currently adding wide-body aircraft as well to relaunch direct flight operations to key tourist destinations. China is among the top priority routes owing to higher arrival figure.

The national airline’s current fleet consists of 25 aircraft including seaplanes, ATR 72-400, DHC-8 and one Airbus A320.
