To watch the UEFA Champions League final live at the stadium is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. But to walk on the pitch as a player mascot is an even rarer privilege.

Our national bank, the Bank of Maldives, gave a lucky Maldivian child this incredible opportunity through a promotion held in partnership with UEFA Champions League official partner, Mastercard.

Nine-year-old Ibrahim Zaain Ziyad entered the pitch during Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in Saturday night’s final at London’s iconic Wembley Stadium. He walked onto the pitch with Real Madrid’s Uruguayan midfielder, Federico Valverde. This is the first time a Maldivian kid has acted as a player mascot in a match of this level.

The grand prize of this promotion was an all-inclusive trip for two (one child and one adult) to London for four days. This included return airfare tickets to London, accommodation, tickets to the UEFA Champions League Final match, the player mascot experience, pocket money, and a welcome gift.

The winner, Mohamed Muhdhin, gave the mascot opportunity to his cousin Zaain. Muhdhin also traveled to London, where he watched his favorite team win the premier European club football tournament for a record 15th time.

“What a big moment for Zaain and Muhdhin on this adventure of a lifetime,” Bank stated on their social media.

The Mastercard Player Mascot experience provides young football fans with priceless access to the UEFA Champions League Final. Mastercard is the official sponsor of the UEFA Champions League.

Bank of Maldives is a principal member of Mastercard in the Maldives and issues Mastercard debit, credit, and prepaid cards in the country.
