Chinese arrivals exceed 100k, total arrivals up 9.9% so far in 2024

Chinese tourist arrivals to the Maldives have exceeded 100,000 as of June 04, 2024, reports Ministry of Tourism.

According to the ministry’s tourism statistics, the total annual arrivals from January 01 to June 04 reached 907,066; which is a 9.9% increment in annual terms, compared to the same period last year during which arrivals stood at 825,239.

With a daily arrival average of 5,815 and an average duration of stay of 7.8 days, the arrival momentum to Maldives appears to be maintained well within general levels, mirroring the same arrival momentum trends observed before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite observing an annual increment in arrivals, tourist arrivals observed exclusively for May 2024 saw a 0.9% drop; registering the lowest arrivals for the month in the last three years, much to the concerns of Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO).

Meanwhile, arrivals in June so far is also down 7.3% as well.
