Maldives Civil Court has ordered GoAir, a now defunct budget carrier that ceased flight operations as of May 2023, to pay USD 3.6 million to Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA).

Civil Court ordered GoAir to pay the amount in accordance with the Air Taxes and Fees Act (Act No.: 29/2016) – that gives statutory enforcement for the state to collect Departure Tax, Airport Service Change, and Airport Development Fee from passengers.

The airline owes the ordered dues for the period it operated to Maldives from April 2022 to March 2023; post which it ceased flight operations to the island nation.

Civil Court in its order, issued in absentia of the carrier, noted the failure of GoAir to attend trial proceedings despite multiple summoning orders issued to the local address.
