Maldives table-tennis icon, and former best table-tennis player of the island nation Ibrahim Shiury has been appointed to lead Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) as its Managing Director.

Following a vacuum since the termination of MMPRC’s last MD Fathmath Thaufeeq, owing to yet undisclosed discrepancies, the country’s tourism board’s responsibilities were transferred to its Deputy Managing Director Bassam temporarily.

Prior to his appointment to lead the Maldives tourism board, Shiury was a steering committee member of World Bank’s “Enhancing Employability and Resilience of Youth” project in the country among several other high-profile jobs.

The 40-year-old former TT icon is also the current Vice President of the Maldives TT Association as well.

A recipient of the National Award and the Youth Award, Shiury fills the role as a Director, Projects and Infrastructure at a private corporation. He had also been involved in various airport development initiatives as a lead project manager as well – which includes airport development projects in Fuvahmulah and Kulhudhuffushi cities, Dharavandhoo, Ifuru, Kooddoo, and Kudahuvadhoo.

Besides this, he is also an Executive Board Member of the Maldives National Association of Construction Industry (MNACI), and was a former board member of the Maldives Hajj Corporation as well.

In 2006, he had set a Guinness world record for the most number of people involved in a mini-car cramming.
