The Maldivian IBF Industry (MIBFI) Conference achieved a significant milestone with hosting the 10th instalment this year.

Held on July 04, 2024 at Meerumaa Hall, the full-day conference that commenced a decade ago, received delegates from the Maldives and their contemporaries from South Asian region and around the world.

Minister of Finance Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq attended the conference as the chief guest, and shed light on establishing an Islamic finance hub in the Maldives.

The guest of honor, Mohamed Ali Janah, the Principal Advisor to the President on Trade and Investment, highlighted the investment possibilities being “nearly limitless” in the Maldives for Islamic banking and finance.

Besides this, Janah also stressed that IBF needs to be explored further, particularly as related to venture capital raising.

He further said that Maldives should be a “knowledge hub for IBF” since the country possess a slew of educated scholars, who can make Maldives as the “meeting place for all” to promote the concept of Islamic Finance.

The strategic partner and host of the MIBFI Conference, the Maldives Capacity Development and Governance Institute (MCDGI) received a Pinnacle Award at this year’s conference, recognizing and honoring the contributions made to the development of Islamic banking and finance industry in the Maldives.

Besides MCDGI, Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB), Amana Takaful, and Adl Capital (Sri Lanka) received the Pinnacle awards for their contributions towards Islamic finance development.
