Maldivian, the flagship carrier of the island nation, on Tuesday announced it has cancelled flights to Dhaka.
Maldivian said on X, that it has cancelled the flight to and from Dhaka scheduled for August 06, 2024.
The airline added that it was closely monitoring the situation, and will keep its passengers updated on any new developments.
Maldivian added that it prioritizes the safety of passengers and it’s employees.
On Monday, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country after protesters stormed her official residence following weeks of deadly anti-government protests.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh media outlets report the death of more than 100 during the face-off between protesters and armed security forces.
The protests first began when Bangladesh High Court reinstated the job quota system, that facilitated government jobs to the families of freedom fighters.
Bangladesh Supreme Court however, later overturned this and held that 93% of government job appointments will be based on merit and only 5% was reserved for families of freedom fighters.
