Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) have entered into an agreement to expand the apron at Maafaru International Airport.
The project is poised to significantly enhance the airport’s infrastructure and capacity.
The agreement was officially signed between IASL’s Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas and MTCC CEO and Managing Director Abdulla Ziyad.
The expansion involves paving a total area of 15,300 square meters, effectively doubling the airport’s current aircraft parking capacity. Right now, the airport can accommodate 13 business jets simultaneously, but upon completion of the project, up to 26 business jets can easily park at once.
IASL said this enhancement is crucial for “mitigating challenges faced by business jet operators” with the need for more parking space.
“This expansion is a critical milestone for Maafaru International Airport. By doubling our aircraft parking capacity, we are not only meeting the growing needs of business jet operators but also positioning Maafaru as a key gateway in the region, capable of delivering exceptional services for our customers and enhancing the operational efficiency,” said Ibrahim Iyas.
The project is set for completion within six months, ensuring the airport is equipped to meet the future demands of the aviation industry.
