State Electric Company (STELCO) has announced it is now preparing to establish an electric vehicle charging station in the Maldives capital.
STELCO Managing Director Hussain Fahmy said on X, that the utility provider is taking significant strides, in line with the vision of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, to fulfill its commitment to a sustainable future.
Fahmy said STELCO is now preparing to launch EV car charging stations and EV motorcycle charging systems.
“This initiative is a testament to President Muizzu’s leadership in driving the nation’s transition toward cleaner energy and greener transportation solutions,” Fahmy said in his post on X.
He added that under President Muizzu’s strategic vision, STELCO is “not only supporting the growing adoption of electric vehicles but also reinforcing the Maldives’ commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation.”
The STELCO front man said Maldives would follow the example of Korea to install one charging station for every three cars.
He further said that the utility provider has discussed with, and acquired the full support of Male’ City Council for the endeavor.
