MACL to Expand Airport Operations in Time for Winter

Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL) announces plans for expansion of airport operations, especially the terminal, in time for boom in traffic near winter.

Speaking to local media sources, MACL Managing Director Adil Moosa said that they expected the number of flights to Velana International Airport (VIA) to significantly increase in time for winter months in European markets.

‘The number of flights had increased in frequency. For example the Aero Flight had increased their frequency to daily flights. Qatar Airlines and other similar carriers are bringing additional movements. I would say that this season will have more arrivals than the last season,’ Adil said.

In order to prepare for this, MACL also plans to add in 10 more check-in counters.

A record number of private jets landed in Velana International Airport this New Year’s Eve. This year, 38 private jets landed in the Maldives; a 35 percent increase compared to last year.
