Housing Development Co-Operation (HDC) has signed an agreement with Calix Services to establish an Open Access Fiber Network in Hulhumale’ phase two.
Yesterday at the launching ceremony held by HDC, the Managing Director of HDC Ahmed Nasif announced that with this project, Hulhumale’ will become the first ever 100% gigabyte smart city in Asia and will be able to provide high speed internet services at the same quality as America.
Nasif said that currently in Male’ different operators has implemented different networks to provide their services, but in Hulhumale under the Fiber network project there will be only one network and all the service operators can easily provide their services through it.
Phase two will bring in new forms of advanced technology and amenities that everyone will enjoy.
“One of the most important matters is to provide seamless, uninterrupted communication connectivity and provide faster internet speed that was never seen in Maldives” said Nasif while noting that this project should solve the difficulties experienced with the current connections.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice President of Calix Services area Stephan Iree stated that this is a service a city such as Hulhumale’ needs and it will be very beneficial to the local businesses. Once these services have been established, video and audio conferences can be conducted with higher speed and better quality connectivity.
Presently, Dhiraagu and Ooredoo are also providing internet services through fiber cable.
