MTCC Starts Laying Asphalt on Funadhoo Airport

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun laying asphalt on runway of the airport in Funadhoo Island in Shaviyani Atoll.

Asphalt laying commenced after the company reclaimed a total of 21 hectares of land from the northern side of the island. The runway created under the project stretches to 1.2 kilometers.

MTCC had not given a date for the commencement for this phase of the project.

The reclamation work had begun in January 2018 using MTCC’s Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger, “Mahaa Jarraaf”.

A total of 21 Hectares of land was reclaimed from the west of Funadhoo’s northern side and the runway will stretch to a kilometer of 1.2.

The budget for the runway project amounts to MVR 89 million out of which MVR 49 million was spent on the reclamation project of Funadhoo Island.
