Maldives Welcomes the Millionth Tourist of 2018


A Turkish visitor has become Maldives millionth tourist for the year 2018.

With the increasing number of tourists visiting Maldives, the numbers exceed 1 million tourist visits every year. The Maldives have embraced this custom to greet the millionth visitor with a grand gesture of celebration since 2015.

The Velana International Airport welcomed the male tourist who arrived with his wife for their honeymoon at Meeru island resort with an impressive gesture of celebrations portraying the cultural activities of Maldives. The tourist was awarded a free resort holiday at Movenpick resort, a Trans Maldivian seaplane ticket and a 100 GB internet package from Dhiraagu.

The event was held at the Airports VIP lounge and attended by the senior executives of Civil Aviation Authority, the Deputy Tourism Minister Hussain Lirar and Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Cooperation’s Managing Director Haris Mohamed.

The tourist stated that he was not expecting such a warm welcome and it is a huge surprise to him. He also went on to say that being greeted by such happy faces and being welcomed in such a manner is a great honor. And he hopes that the time he spends here in Maldives would be very happy and he would be back next year after accepting the gift package from Movenpick resort.

According to the statistics, 848,847 tourists visited Maldives by July 2018. This is a 10.1% increase from the 770,715 tourists that visited during the same period in 2017.
