The newly constructed runway of Velana International Airport is up to international standards, says the Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company (MACL) Adil Moosa.
Huge development projects are currently ongoing at VIA, and preparations are on route as VIA prepares to land the largest aircraft, A 380 on 18th September on the new runway.
The project is carried out under the guidance of consultants from Surbana International consultancy firm from Singapore.
Adil while emphasizing on the credibility of the company, stated that this consultancy firm is also the consultants to Singapore’s Changi Airport. He also went on to say that the quality and standard of all airport projects are guaranteed.
Moreover, he informed that all assessments and testing have been completed and the runway is ready for its first landing.
The code ‘F’ standard runway which stretches to 3400 meters in length and 60 meters in width was developed by a Chinese company, Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG). The runway project was awarded to this company for USD 400 million.
