Funadhoo Airport’s runway will be completed within a couple of days’ time, says contractor Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The airport project at Funadhoo Island of the northern Shaviyani Atoll commenced earlier this year, with 21 hectares of land added to its north-western side by MTCC’s very own hopper-suction dredger Mahaa Jarraaf.
MTCC’s CEO Ibrahim Ziyath told local media that the asphalt runway of Funadhoo Airport will be completed within two days.
Ziyath said the runway will be ready for test flights by then.
MTCC was contracted MVR 60 million to reclaim the required land in Funadhoo and build the runway, taxiway and apron for the island.
Several other airport projects are currently undergoing in the Maldives, including domestic airports in Maafinolhu in the northern Haa Alif atoll, Kulhudhuffushi Airport in Haa Dhaalu atoll, Madivaru in Lhaviyani atoll, Fares Maathoda and Maavaarulu in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
Recently, an international airport in Manafaru Island in Noonu Atoll was inaugurated by President Abdulla Yameen.
