China’s Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) has been awarded to construct the planned airport in Madivaru Island of Lhaviyani Atoll.
At a ceremony held at Hurawalhi Maldives’ 5.8 Undersea Restaurant, the contract was signed off by (Champa) Mohamed “Uhchu” Moosa, director of Kuredu Holdings and Li Dausang, BUCG’s International Rep President.
The Government of Maldives handed over the project to build and operate an airport in Madivaru, to Kuredu Holdings in May 2018.
Speaking to press after the ceremony, tourism tycoon Mohamed Moosa said that Kuredu Holdings’ aim is to complete Madivaru Airport within eight months, and to commence its operations by June next year.
The airport on the former military training base will include a 1.2 kilometer runway, a city hotel and an aviation training center.
