Four new international F&B outlets have opened at the new waterfront location of Velana International Airport.
The outlets—KFC, Pizza Hut, Harvest Market and British coffeehouse chain Costa Coffee—was inaugurated at the waterfront building by Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed.
Currently, an outlet of KFC and Pizza Hut is operated in the capital Male City by Gamma Island Foods.
However, the four newly opened outlets—including KFC and Pizza Hut—is operated by the American airport food-services company, HMSHost.
An outlet of Coffee Club, Thai Express, Dairy Queen, Burger King and The Pizza Company exists at VIA. These franchises are managed by Thailand’s Minor International.
Speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the 14,000 square feet waterfront location, Adil Moosa, Managing Director of VIA’s operator Maldives Airports Company Limited said that more international brands will be brought to the airport once the new international passenger terminal is completed.
Under Velana International Airport’s redevelopment project, a new Code F runway of 3,400 meters was inaugurated on 18th September, with an Etihad Airways A380 aircraft’s successful landing—the first A380 to land in the Maldives.
Moreover, a new international passenger terminal development project is currently undergoing. MACL says its target is to serve 7 million passengers annually.
