Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has reported an increase of flight movements to the island nation carrying holidaymakers during peak season of 2018.
According to the managing director of MACL, Mr. Adil Moosa the flight operations to Velana International Airport (VIA) registered significant increase of international flight landings during peak season of the current year in comparison with the same period of 2017.
The state-based aviation company’s head on Monday claimed during the ‘Go Air’ flight operation commencement ceremony, the number of flights to Maldives during the winter season have increased compared to last year.
Mr. Adil Moosa highlighted the flight movements increased specifically from the European region where the countries are or will be welcoming their winter season around the end of each year.
The managing director of MACL expected flight movement to VIA increased by 1,000. He also highlighted the flight operations have been adjusted to cater for the high-demand of holidaymakers traveling to Maldives.
Based on forecast of Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Adil Moosa expected the increase of tourists visiting Maldives by 5 to 7 percent in 2018.
During Monday’s special ceremony to launch India-based ‘Go Air’ in Maldives, Mr. Adil revealed plans of welcoming a new airline to Velana International Airport’s operational cycle, though did not reveal any further details.
