A UAE test flight has landed at Maafaru international airport showing the earliest phase of the airport venue preparing its transition into an international airport venue.

The airport consisting of 2,200-meter long runway is capable of catering one of the largest aircrafts currently operating. As part of the project, a city hotel, passenger terminal and jet parking facility are also being developed.

Speaking to media Mr. Samee Ageel, the Regional Airports’ director general, said that in order for larger aircrafts to land on the runway the test-flight was scheduled to assess the tarmac condition.

Furthermore, highlighting that there is still some work in progress needed in the airport passenger terminal, Mr. Ageel said;

“the work of passage terminal still is undergoing and will be hopefully completed by the end of this year.”

The project worth of USD 60 million is funded by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and the first test flight landing took place 14th August 2018.
