Govt to rescind import duty on agricultural capital

Maldives’ government moves to rescind import duty on agricultural capital, as a governmental lawmaker has already submitted a bill to the parliament.

On behalf of the government, Maradhoo MP Ibrahim Shareef has proposed the amendment to import export laws, which aims to rescind import duty on equipment and material for agriculture. In a bid to further expand the agricultural sector of the Maldives, the rescission of import duty from these items is expected to help in making the sector essential for the economic growth of the country.

The parliament will debate on the bill on Monday before asking for a vote on whether or not to accept the bill to the parliament.

Rescinding import duty from agricultural capital is among one of the 100 day pledges that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih made shortly after assuming office back in November.
