Family Legal Clinic starts crowd-funding campaign

Family Legal Clinic has launched a crowd-funding campaign to expand their services.

The Clinic provides free legal assistance in family matters, including domestic violence cases. It was founded in 2014. Seventeen lawyers are partner to the organization, with Ooredoo as the partner for teleconsultation.

Family Legal Clinic co-founder Hawwa Shafeeaa Riza said all the lawyers work on a pro-bono basis and that all lawyers have undergone special training at the Society for Health Education (SHE). She added the Clinic had assisted in 178 cases, with 119 individuals registered with the Clinic.

Shafeeaa said the Clinic was run with the assistance of several parties. However, she noted the Clinic had expanded in the past years, and with it costs of running the Clinic. She explained that this was the reason for the crowd-funding campaign. All proceeds from the campaign will be fully audited and go to the Clinic for legal defense.

Proceeds can be donated to the Clinic’s account (1602005986) at the Maldives Commercial Bank and the go fund me set for the Clinic.

Shafeeaa said if the campaign generates over MVR 700,000, then the proceeds will be invested to sustainably run operations and expand operations.
