Cruise liners now able to dock closer to capital

According to the Ministry of Tourism, cruise liners will now be able to dock closer to capital city, Male’.

Cruise liners that travel to the Maldives had to dock about two nautical miles away from Male’ City previously. This caused several issues, mainly the difficulty of transportation to and from said cruise liners to the city.

As per a statement by the Ministry, they have made arrangements for cruise liners to be able to dock 0.6 nautical miles away from the capital city, bringing an end to the hassle faced by tourists while visiting Male’.

While the Ministry had made arrangements for cruise liners to dock closer to Male’, Tourism Minister Mr. Ali Waheed had a fruitful meeting with Maldives Association of Yacht Agents (MAYA). During this meeting, MAYA had requested for permission to use Izzuddin Jetty area for tourists who visit Male’ City from such cruises.

MAYA reveals that about 40 cruise liners will be visiting Maldives between November 2018 and April 2019, with an estimate of 30,000 tourists.
