Rise in English tourists in 2018

There has been a significant rise in the arrival of tourists from England in 2018.

While 2017 saw the influx of around 104,000 visitors, 2018 had a 10.2% increase of tourists, totaling around 114,600.

England is the second highest market of tourism for the Maldives, followed by China. The British market is very significant for our tourism industry as it accounts for over 7.7% of the total tourists to Maldives.

In 2019, 20 resorts will be opened, resulting in the total number of beds to exceed 47,000. The government intends to bring more than 1.5 million tourists to Maldives this year.

Additionally, they aim to bring 2.5 million tourists to the country on an annual basis by the end of the 5 year presidency.
