European tourist arrivals increase by 9%

Last January saw an increase in European Tourists Arrivals by 9% in the Maldives.

According to the statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, the month of January brought about 151,552 tourists, out of which 83,528 tourists were from Europe. That constitutes 55% of the total number of tourists who arrived last month. This is a 9% increase from January 2018.

The second highest demographic that arrived in the Maldives last month was from the Asia Pacific Region. The Asian Pacific tourists accounted for 36% of tourists visited last month. This is a comparative increase from 2018 by 4.9%.

In January 2019, 7238 American tourists arrived in the Maldives while 4200 tourists arrived from the Middle East. African tourists accounted for 1400 of the arrivals

The highest number of tourist arrivals last month came from China. The number of Chinese arrivals was above 25,000. However, the number is low in comparison to January 2018.

The largest increase in number came from the Indian market, with a 37% increase.
