The Maldives has been represented at one of the largest travel fairs in the Middle East, the Riyadh Travel Fair.

The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) stated that the fair went on from 28 to 30 March.

Held at the Al Faisaliah Hotel in Riyadh, the Maldives was represented at the end by three local companies.

Taking part in the event was part of an ongoing initiative to market Maldivian tourism to the Middle East and has resulted in increasing numbers of tourist arrivals over time.

As such, tourists from the Middle East made up 3.4% of tourist arrivals in the Maldives from 2016 to 2017.

MATATO has taken part in several similar fairs around the world in an effort to market Maldivian tourism globally.

This was the fourth time MATATO took part in the Riyadh Travel Fair.
