Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) will be moving towards assisting in local guesthouse ventures with their provision of necessary equipment and services for operations.
According to the state-owned company’s new managing director Mr Mohamed Raid, MITDC will put a prime focus into the development of guesthouse ventures by introducing relevant services to the field – and he added that the state-owned company was strongly considering the move.
Mr Raid further added that MITDC will not be acting as managerial entity but rather a developer for guesthouse ventures.
The company’s new managing director further noted that MITDC was in talks with Maldives Guesthouse Association regarding the development of spa centres affiliated with such guesthouses. Mr Raid also noted that the industry stakeholders have mutually stated such services will prove beneficial.
According to the recent statistics by Ministry of Tourism, Maldives currently has well over 500 guesthouses fully operational.
Recently the company’s new managing director had also revealed, MITDC was mired in several scandalous trades during the previous administration. Mr Raid noted that the new management will attempt to recover the losses incurred during the said period.
