The special Import/Export License given by the Ministry of Economic Development has been deemed no longer necessary.

This announcement was made following a change in the Import/Export laws of the Maldives, which will be put into effect this coming Monday.

The new rules dictate that changing consignment of any goods being imported via sea or air should be done through the Maldives Customs Service.

As such, any importing, exporting, or re-exporting can now be done after registering with Customs, as per their rules and regulations.

Furthermore, the Ministry stated that any license given before the coming Monday will still allow for the import and export of goods until the end of this year.

This change is part of a governmental initiative to make the Maldives more trade-friendly. As such, the Ministry of Economic Development has held meetings with local businesses to discern what barriers and obstacles exist for them.
