The arrival of Chinese tourists to the Maldives has seen a 5.6% increase up to the end of March this year.
According to statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism, 76,568 tourists from China visited the Maldives from January to March this year. This was a 5.6% increase compared to the 72,539 Chinese tourists who arrived within the same duration last year.
The statistics also show that comparing the numbers by month shows a 12% increase. A total of 19,479 Chinese tourists visited the Maldives in March this year, compared to the 13,203 visits in March last year.
Chinese tourists account for 15% of tourist arrivals in the Maldives.
This increase in Chinese tourist arrivals is being observed following a period of decline. However, despite this decline, China remains one of the main sources of tourists to the Maldives.
