The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has sold USD44 million to Maldivians traveling abroad to other countries for various purposes in the year 2018.
According to statistics released by the MMA, they sold a total of USD550.7 million last year and 5% of this amount was to locals traveling abroad.
The statistics also show that 58% of the US dollars sold last year went to state-owned enterprises. This amounts to a total of USD319 million.
Additionally, 34% of the amount, totaling at USD187 million, went to commercial banks in the Maldives.
Lastly, the MMA also stated that the total amount of US dollars sold in 2018 was 19% more than the total of USD104 million sold in 2017.
