Emirates Airlines has been named as the airline with the most flights to the Maldives last year.
According to statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics, based on information provided by the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), there were a total of 3,236 flights by Emirates Airlines to the Maldives in 2018, bringing over a total of 352,786 passengers.
Additionally, 365,788 travellers left the Maldives and 35,590 passengers stopped in the Maldives for transit.
The statistics also show that 10,487,697 tonnes of cargo was brought into the Maldives and 2,569,345 tonnes of cargo was transported out by Emirates as well.
The airline with the second most number of flights to the Maldives was Sri Lankan Airlines, which brought a total of 11,964,781 tonnes of cargo into the country and took out 1,759,349 tonnes of cargo out of the country.
Additionally, the airline with the third most number of flights to the Maldives last year was Qatar Airways. They were followed by China Eastern and Singapore Airlines.
The statistics further elaborate that there was a total of 159,242 flight landings in the Maldives last year. Out of this amount, 23,820 were international flights and 22,280 were scheduled flights to the Maldives.
