Maldives Partnership Forum 2019 commences

The Maldives Partnership Forum 2019 has commenced on Monday morning, 16 June at Kurumba Maldives Resort.

The forum seeks to “galvanize action on the Government’s vision of Jazeera Raajje (Island Nation) – where equitable, inclusive and sustainable growth, access to justice and the rule of law will prevail” the forum’s official website read.

The theme of Maldives Partnership Forum 2019 is “Investing in a resilient and sustainable Maldives.”

The incumbent government aims to start several development projects in realizing their ‘Island Nation’ vision with notable projects like:

  1. The Addu Development Project: project total at USD414 million
  2. Development of an environmentally sustainable waste management system at Huvadhoo Atoll: project total at USD24 million
  3. Construction of bridges to link Male’ city with Greater Male’ Industrial Zones: project total at USD488 million

The Maldives president His Excellency Mr Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is among the speakers of the forum along with vice president His Excellency Faisal Naseem, the Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Abdulla Shahid as well as Finance Minister His Excellency Ibrahim Ameer.

The forum is a two-day event from 17 June until 18 June – starting at 09:00hrs every morning – held at the Bouganvilla Conference Hall at Kurumba Maldives Resort. However, a special welcome reception was held on the eve of 16 June.

The forum will have a total of five plenary sessions which will include video presentations, Q&A sessions with moderate discussions between selected panelists and summary of discussions on the plenary discussion topics.

These plenary discussions will attempt to seek to identify and put emphasis on various methods and approaches the government aims to take in developing the country with accordance to the ‘Island Nation’ vision.

The plenary discussion sessions are:

  • Macroeconomic and Fiscal Overview
  • Blue Economy: Addressing inclusivity and sustainability in economic development
  • Enhancing Social Outcomes: Investing in healthcare, education and housing
  • Building Robust Institutions: Addressing Governance and Justice
  • Partnering with the Private Sector for Development

The forum will conclude on 18 June with an event titled “The Sunny Side of Life” which is a reception hosted by the Maldives Minister of Tourism Honorable Ali Waheed to mark the closing of the Maldives Partnership Forum.
