The Maldives Ministry of Housing and Urban Development on Tuesday announced low interest rate loans for housing and infrastructure purposes will be made available soon.
Though an exact date was not disclosed the Ministry’s Deputy Minister Mr Ali Shamin addressed that the government body had held discussions with several local banks to explore a loan scheme for housing purposes which the public can benefit from.
Deputy Minister Mr Shamin claimed the low interest rate loan scheme will be announced in the upcoming days.
The Ministry’s initiative in holding discussions with local banks to seek the possibility of issuing loans at interest rates between 5 to 6 percent comes under the incumbent government’s pledge in providing affordable housing for everyone.
The Minister of Housing and Urban Development Ms Aminath Athifa met with Maldives Governor Ahmed Naseer on Monday to conclude the discussions regarding the loan scheme.
