Over USD 32 Million Deposited to Green Fund in the First Half of the Year

Ministry of Finance has announced over USD 32 million was deposited to the Green Fund in the first half of the year. According to the statistics published by the ministry, the state has spent USD 10.683 million, with USD 22.209 million kept in the Green Fund at the moment.

In the first 6 months of the year, the highest amount was deposited to the Green Fund in March and April. Likewise, USD 5.374 million was deposited to the fund in each of the two highest-earning months.

The Green Tax is payable at the rate of USD 6 per day of stay from tourist resorts, tourist hotels and tourist vessels, and USD 3 per day of stay from tourist guesthouses. Maldivians and resident permit holders do not need to to pay the Green Tax.

Green Tax was implemented following amendments to the Maldives Tourism Act on September 1, 2015.
