The Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Ms Zaha Waheed has flown to New Zealand on 2 September to take part in two summits.
According to the ministry, Minister Waheed will be participating at the ‘Pacific Island Nations Marine Conversation and Maritime Security Summit’ slated at Auckland. In addition to this, she will be taking part in a specialized workshop on Marine Special Planning.
Both the summits are executed with the collaboration of Blue Prosperity Coalition in association with Environmental Law Institute, White Institute and IUCN Oceania.
Important talking points in both these summits will focus around tropical and low-lying island nations working towards enforcing marine special planning and seeking further ways to improve the existing strategies.
The Ministry further reports participation in these summits will allow Maldives to implement policies regarding Marine Special Planning and seek assistance from international stakeholders.
Moreover, participants will discuss on prospective opportunities that can be achieved with the utilization of the oceanic border of Maldives.
