Bulk transportation in Male’ restricted to low traffic hours

Due to extreme traffic congestion and public inconvenience, Maldives Transport Authority has restricted lorry and pickup-up freighting to low traffic hours.

In an announcement published today, the Maldives Transport Authority declared certain periods for lorries, pick-up trucks, vans, and vehicles alike to carry goods in bulk. The regulation which comes into effect on next Sunday, prohibits deliveries, distributions, or bulk goods transportation anytime outside the specified period of 10:00 PM to 06:00 AM, in Male’.

These include transportation of goods to local shops and warehouses; transportation of wood, steel, cement, sand, and other construction materials; water deliveries; and services alike.

However, special consideration was given to gas cylinder deliveries which can be carried out from 08:30 AM to 11:00 AM and 08:00 PM to 0600 AM.

A senior official from Transport authority informed that transportation of bulk goods to ferries and boats must also be carried out during 10:00 PM to 06:00 AM.

“Though this regulation is in effect, pickup services can be used for public use. But deliveries must be made within the regulation,” MTA official explained.

He further stated that drivers and businesses that violates this regulation will be duly penalized.
