MTCC concludes reclamation of Funadhoo airport site

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has concluded reclamation of land for airport to be created in Funadhoo island in Shaviyani Atoll.

The reclaimed land measures 21 hectares in area and is located on the west side of the island. MTCC initiated the project early in January of 2018 and used the company’s Mahaa Jarraaf for the project.

Presently, the contractors are levelling the land and using revetment to protect the shoreline.

MTCC will also construct the airport, which includes runway development, apron and taxiway construction.

The total project is valued at MVR 60 million and is expected to be completed by July of this year.

This is the second project MTCC’s Mahaa Jarraaf has undertaken. The first one was the reclamation of land for the Kulhudhuffushi airport. MTCC launched reclamation of this airport in October 2017.
The massive dredger measures 92.95 meters in length and 16.30 meters in width. It can accommodate 3700 cubic meters of sand at any given time.

MTCC had spent US$ 36 million to construct the dredger. The dredger was constructed by Netherlands’ IHC in China’s Rainbow Marine Technology Boat Yard.
