Velana International Airport (VIA) observes the highest in flight movements to the venue till date on 06 January 2020.
According to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), this marks the third such time since December 2019.
MACL confirms the prime air-gateway of Maldives observed 552 runway movements and 559 seaplane movements on Monday. This brings the total air traffic movement of the airport venue to 811.
While the air traffic movements are gradually increasing at VIA, the airport’s operator MACL confirms their top priority remains to ensure safety of the flights taking off and landing on the runway and taxiway.
It was reported during the last week of December 2019, the total flight movements of the airport were recorded at 239 with 101 international flight movements along with 121 domestic movements.
In addition to this 17 ad-hoc runway movements were recorded in the said week.
