Environment Protection Agency has fined Olhuveli Beach & Spa Resort following its violation of Environment Impact Assessment (EIA).
The resort is currently involved in an expansion phase which requires an (EIA) permit.
Furthermore the resort’s expansion plan has been reported to have violated the permitted concept from Ministry of Tourism.
Following their violation, Olhuveli Beach & Spa Resort has been fined with an amount of MVR313,250.
The Maldives Environment Protection Agency (EPA), issued its fine to the resort on 07 January 2020, urging the resort to settle the fined amount within a one month period.
The resort has been fined under the Environmental Protection Act in Maldives.
Olhuveli Beach & Spa Resort managed by famous hotelier Ahmed Siyam under his hotelier brand Sun Siyam Resorts, entered into an expansion phase which involves the reclamation of land from the resort island’s lagoon.
Under the concept, the expansion a new tourist slip named ‘Dream Island’ is set to be developed with new villa concepts.
