The Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture has signed on an agreement with Maldives Customs Service to implement new regulations against illegal fisheries activities.
The institutions have signed on the agreement to ensure legal enforceability on fisheries related activity violating the regulations including unlicensed vessels or unregistered fishing.
As per statements from both Ministry of Fisheries and Customs Services, the law is set out to ensure quays and harbors tighten up security protocols, including stronger monitoring on individuals or groups reportedly breaching regulations.
The new rules suggest reefer and foreign originated vessels will be inspected and provided clearance based on prerequisites set out by the relevant authorities in order to guarantee no illegal conduct in fishing within the Maldivian border.
More so, the regulations will also adhere to international best practices as well.
