State announces subsidies on utility bills amid viral outbreak

The Maldives government on Thursday announced its decision to subsidize percentiles on water and electricity bills, due to the adverse effect of the viral pandemic on the island nation’s economy.

State has decided to subsidize 40% on all electricity bills for the months April and May while 30% subsidies will be given on water bills.

The announcement was made on Thursday afternoon at the press conference held at Dharubaaruge convention center to announce state’s economic plans amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Meanwhile, Maldives government announced a total of MVR2.5 billion stimulus package for local businesses to offset the economic dent.
