Emirates on Sunday announced the airline’s decision to temporarily suspend most of its passenger flights by Wednesday, 25 March 2020.
The airline made it official through their Facebook page along with other official handles.
In the statement, Emirates noted the rapidly spreading COVID-19 pandemic had resulted in significantly reducing global travel demand and was further accelerated by border closures from several countries to prevent the spread of the virus.
However, since their initial statement the airline had made an amended announcement emphasizing Emirates will continue its passenger and cargo flights to specific destinations in accordance with requests made by the respective governments and customers.
The destinations with Emirates’ continuing its flight operations, until further notice or border closure include:
- United Kingdom
- Switzerland
- Hong Kong
- Thailand
- Malaysia
- Philippines
- Japan
- Singapore
- Australia
- South Africa
- South Korea
- United States of America, and
- Canada
Additionally, the airline confirmed to continue their SkyCargo operations to “maintain vital international air cargo links for economies and communities.”
Emirates becomes the latest in major league carriers to announce temporary suspension in most of its flight operations while it is expected the airline will cut down on or completely cease its operations to Maldives since the destination is not on the airline’s exempted list for continued operation.
