Telecommunication giant of Maldives, Dhiraagu has complied with state’s request in expanding free data allowance for its customers.
Dhiraagu confirms the decision was made in order to provide more relief for its large customer base during the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with state institutions and education venues temporarily shutting down.
The state imposed shutdown on education institutions have pushed for all colleges, universities and similar venues to continue their ongoing courses and programs with the aid of online platforms.
Meanwhile mounting complaints by students as well as teachers and lecturers have been generally aimed at difficulties regarding taking part in online classes. Many students utilize data packages with few finding convenient WiFi options due to their working conditions.
Moreover, the economic drive of the island nation has come to a standstill resulting in an overall financial constraint for many – with several in the private sector facing issues with their salaries.
To better counter the condition, and provide relief for the customers, Maldives government have requested from telecom companies to provide additional data allowances on top of the subscribed package.
Additionally, state has further requested to boost up internet speed for customers as well.
Dhiraagu has shown their compliance with a few key decisions, which include;
- Data allowance between 50 to 140% on all home-fixed broadband packages for the months of April and May
- Extending 50% booster-discount from March to April for all home-fixed broadband packages
- Additional data allowance between 50 to 75% for post-paid customers
- 50% additional data on monthly data add-on for months April and May for pre-paid customers
The telecom giant is expected to announce their full data allowance plan on Dhiraagu website.
