The designated Job Center portal, established for locals to lodge complaints over their employment, have received a total of 1,159 cases so far.
The portal was established following the COVID-19 viral outbreak which effected the country’s economic drive and affected several employments.
Mr Mabrouk Abdul Azeez, the official spokesperson on COVID-19 updates in Maldives confirmed the Ministry of Economic Development confirms their portal has received the aforementioned number of complaints so far.
Most cases relate to forced no-pay leaves and drastic reduction in salaries and a cut off in allowances.
Earlier, Maldives government announced locals to submit complaints with regards to drastic and unfavorable changes brought to their employment contract or condition in light of the viral pandemic.
Reports have been mounting over several employers forcing their staff to take no-pay leaves or reduced salaries.
Meanwhile, Maldives government have decided to provide with an allowance starting from April for a three month duration for all registered complainants who have faced loss of employment.
