Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) can now apply for the Bank of Maldives (BML) Payment Gateway to receive payments from overseas customers in US dollars.
The service allows businesses to accept payments for goods and services made using international cards, with the funds settled in US dollars.
BML said the dollars received through the service can be used without restriction for subscriptions and other international payments through a USD debit card linked to the account.
MSMEs seeking access to the service must first apply through the Business Center Corporation (BCC) portal, which BML said would go live later on Sunday.
Once a referral is received from BCC, BML will contact the business directly to collect the required documentation and complete the registration and onboarding process. The payment gateway will be activated once these steps are completed.
The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Economic Development, Transport and Trade and BCC.
BML had earlier finalised arrangements for the service ahead of its planned 1 November rollout, with the facility aimed at MSMEs serving international markets.
